February 21, 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer next week, the White House announced on Thursday.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Trump will welcome French President Macron on Monday and UK Prime Minister Starmer on Thursday.

During these visits, Trump will continue to threaten tariffs on European Union (EU) goods, which he has described as "very unfair."

In 2022, U.S. exports to the 27 EU member states totaled $350.8 billion, while imports stood at $553.3 billion, according to data from the U.S. Trade Representative. However, this data does not reflect the full trade picture, as the U.S. had a $70 billion edge in service trade.

Additionally, foreign direct investment flowing into the U.S. from Europe exceeds that of U.S. investment in Europe, amounting to roughly $210 billion, according to European Commission data.

On February 14, Trump signed an executive order mandating "reciprocal tariffs," which requires foreign countries to match U.S. import duties with their own.

Trump has specifically targeted the VAT (Value-Added Tax) imposed on U.S. exports by the EU and UK, as well as consumption taxes, as part of his global tariff effort.
