London: British-Lebanese human rights lawyer Amal Clooney has joined the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University as a professor.

At 47, Clooney studied law at Oxford’s St. Hugh’s College, and she has expressed her pride in returning to her alma mater. The Blavatnik School of Government has stated that it is "delighted" to appoint Clooney, adding that her expertise will enhance the school’s research and teaching.

Clooney has won landmark legal cases representing victims of genocide, sexual assault, and persecution at world-renowned courts, including the International Criminal Court (ICC). In 2016, she co-founded the "Clooney Foundation for Justice" with her husband, George Clooney, which provides legal aid in more than 40 countries for cases related to free speech and women’s rights.

Clooney has published two textbooks on international law and has served as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School in New York City.

She said, "I am honored to have this opportunity to engage with the next generation of global leaders and contribute to the efforts to advance justice worldwide alongside Oxford’s faculty and students."
