American female basketball star Caitlin Clark's alleged stalker from Texas arrested for sexual threats
A man from Texas, Michael Thomas Lewis, has been arrested on charges of stalking women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark. The 22-year-old Clark expressed concern for her safety, telling police that she had been repeatedly threatened and frightened through multiple social media posts.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office stated that the incidents, which started on December 16, continued, with Lewis posting several sexually offensive messages threatening Clark. One post stated that he had driven past Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Indiana Fever plays home games, three times a day. Another post read, “One foot on a banana peel and the other on a stalking charge.”
Expressing concern for her safety, Clark told police that these posts made her feel terrified, anxious, and threatened. Additionally, the posts created an implied or explicit fear of sexual assault, according to the allegations.
Lewis is now scheduled to appear in Marion County Superior Court. If convicted, he could face six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Furthermore, police investigations revealed that the posts were sent from IP addresses associated with an Indianapolis hotel and a public library.
In a police interview, Lewis stated that his posts were simply "imagination and fantasy," and he had no intention to cause harm. However, prosecutors argued that Lewis traveled from Texas to Indianapolis specifically to be close to Clark and posed a threat to her.
In response to the incident, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears spoke on behalf of Caitlin Clark. He said, "It is difficult for many women to come forward in these cases, as they fear for their safety. Caitlin Clark, through her bravery, has set an example for all women, showing that they deserve to live safely in Indianapolis."
Caitlin Clark, who was the number one overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, and has been honored with Rookie of the Year and All-Star awards for her outstanding career, has taken a stand against this inappropriate behavior.
