Tehran, January 13: Iran has released Nahid Taghavi, an Iranian-German human rights activist, from its prison. This release comes at a time when Tehran is in discussions with three major European countries—France, Germany, and the United Kingdom—about its nuclear program and other issues.

Taghavi was arrested in Tehran in October 2020 and sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of forming a group with the intention of disrupting national security and spreading anti-government propaganda. After her release, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed, "It is a moment of joy that Taghavi can finally reunite with her family."

Meanwhile, talks between Iran and European countries have begun in Geneva, Switzerland. The main focus of these discussions is the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei mentioned that this is a continuation of previous consultative discussions.

Relations between Germany and Iran have been deteriorating. Earlier, a diplomatic row occurred between Berlin and Tehran following the death of another German-Iranian dual national, Jamshid Sharmahd. As a result of this, Germany ordered the closure of Iran's three consulates.

These developments from Iran come at a time when the country is facing international sanctions and diplomatic pressure, particularly due to allegations of its involvement with Russia. However, Iran has consistently denied these accusations.
