Copenhagen, Denmark, January 11, 2025: Wejdan Abu Shammala, a 23-year-old journalist and recent graduate who fled Gaza six months after the genocide, has shared her experience and called on the world to raise awareness about the situation in Gaza.
She told Al Jazeera that her father urged her to flee so she could inform the world about the dire conditions in Gaza. After her Al-Azhar University in Gaza was destroyed, she moved to Egypt and then France, where she continues her studies.
"Until this moment, I am still under trauma, and I am still afraid of any noise," said Wejdan. She further revealed, "I lost more than 200 members of my family in one day, including 45 who died in a single airstrike."
She urged the international community to prioritize Gaza, saying, "Israeli forces do not want to raise awareness about the reality of their terrorism. So please publish, write, speak, share, and boycott."
Wejdan called for empathy and support for the people of Gaza from the international community based on her own experience.
