Caracas, January 10, 2025 — Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was sworn in for a third six-year term on Friday, continuing his rule amid a prolonged economic and social crisis. Despite a six-month election dispute and international pressure, Maduro remains in power.

Maduro, who has served as president since 2013, was declared the winner of the July election, though the full results of his victory have never been published. However, the country’s electoral authority and top court officially declared him victorious.

Maduro took the oath of office at the National Assembly, accompanied by his wife, Cilia Flores, with thousands of supporters present to show their support. Opposition leaders, however, have opposed his swearing-in and continue to call for his resignation.

Opposition leader Juan Guaidó, following Maduro's swearing-in, stated, "We will return and bring a new dawn for the people of the country."
