Washington, January 5, 2025: On a chilly Saturday afternoon in the East Room of the White House, U.S. President Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 distinguished individuals. The honorees included notable figures from politics, sports, entertainment, civil rights, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and science.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received a standing ovation from the audience as she accepted her medal. Clinton was accompanied by her husband, former President Bill Clinton, daughter Chelsea Clinton, and grandchildren. Democratic philanthropist George Soros and actor-director Denzel Washington were also honored with the nation’s highest civilian award at the White House ceremony.
"For the final time as president, I am honored to bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom on a group of extraordinary individuals who have given their sacred efforts to shape the culture and cause of America," Biden said in his opening remarks. Hillary Clinton, George Soros, and Denzel Washington were among those who received this esteemed award.
