Protest in Florida in Front of President Trump's Residence Demands End to Violence Against Minorities in Bangladesh

Florida On December 28, a protest march organized by Bangladeshi-American Hindus took place in front of President Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, demanding an end to the violence against religious and ethnic minorities in Bangladesh. The protesters aimed to raise their voices against the increasing persecution and torture of minorities, particularly the ongoing violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

The march was organized with the cooperation of the Florida chapter of the Bangladeshi Hindu Society (HSBF) and other religious and ethnic minority organizations. Around one hundred people participated in the protest, with participants coming from various states. The protesters strongly condemned the current government of Bangladesh and the army chief.

Speeches were delivered by Dr. Dilip Nath, Shyamal Chakraborty, Bidyut Sarkar, Shibu Chowdhury, Bharat Mitra, and many others. The speakers held Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman responsible for the persecution of minorities and demanded actions against them. They stated, “The current government is handing over the country to Islamic extremists, which is why opposition parties are being denied the opportunity to participate in elections.”

The speakers also blamed the government for the increasing attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and demanded the prosecution of those responsible for such persecution based on the 2011 Justice Shahabuddin Commission report.

During the protest, several demands were made to the Bangladesh government, including:

  • The release of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das.
  • The enactment of separate laws for minorities and the protection of secularism in the constitution.
  • The passing of laws to prevent hate crimes against religious minorities.

Additionally, they called for urgent international intervention to ensure the protection of minorities in Bangladesh. As part of a memorandum, the speakers appealed to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to assist in the protection of religious freedom and minority rights in Bangladesh.

Although the protest took place in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, its primary goal was to raise international awareness about the protection of minority rights in Bangladesh.
