A Chinese software engineer has been arrested for allegedly stealing Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The person named Linwei Ding (38) was arrested from California in the United States on Wednesday. He is also known as Leo Ding.
Lin Wei Ding used to work at Google. He left his job at Google in December last year. Prior to that, he had been involved in intellectual property theft at two Chinese companies for about a year. This information was revealed by US Attorney General Merrick Garland in a statement.
Merrick Garland further stated, “The Department of Justice will not tolerate intellectual property theft and other modern technology theft. Because it threatens our national security.”
On the other hand, Christopher Wray, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), said that companies associated with China had attempted to steal American innovation.
Allegations have been made against Lin Wei Ding, stating that in 2019, he joined Google. He was involved in software development at Google’s supercomputing data centers.
