Ireland's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Simon Harris, announced on Sunday that the country's embassy in Israel has been closed due to Ireland's anti-Israel stance. Harris further stated that Ireland would continue to criticize Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza and that Israel would not be able to silence Ireland's voice.
According to Pars Today, Harris described the decision to close the embassy in Dublin as "diplomacy aimed at confusing public opinion." He emphasized, "What is reprehensible is the killing of children in Gaza, the killing of civilians, leaving people starving, and preventing humanitarian aid from reaching those in need. These are crimes that I consider to be condemnable."
Harris also questioned, "Everyone wants to know Ireland's position, but what about Israel's actions? What about the atrocities committed by Netanyahu against innocent children in Gaza? This is destructive diplomacy."
It is noteworthy that last Sunday, Israel's right-wing foreign minister, Gideon Sa'ar, referenced Ireland's anti-Israel policy and announced the closure of the Israeli embassy in Dublin.
Following Ireland's decision to recognize the state of Palestine in May, Israel withdrew its ambassador from Dublin. Last week, Ireland also announced that it would join South Africa's case against Israel in the International Court of Justice in The Hague, which accuses Israel of committing crimes of genocide in Gaza.
