Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that Bangladesh's victory is also India's victory.

On December 16, 1971, Bangladesh was liberated from the grip of the Pakistani occupying forces. The independence, earned at the cost of the blood of countless martyrs and the honor of many mothers and sisters, is now being claimed by India as its own. Today, Monday (December 16), on the occasion of Bangladesh's Victory Day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the day as a historic victory for India in a Facebook post.

On December 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that Bangladesh's victory is also India's victory.

1971, Bangladesh was liberated from the grip of the Pakistani occupying forces.

Instead of congratulating Bangladesh on Victory Day, Modi acknowledged the contribution of Indian soldiers against Pakistan and paid respect to them. However, he did not mention Bangladesh even once in his post.

In his post, Modi wrote, "Today is Vijay Diwas. We honor the courage and sacrifice of the brave soldiers who contributed to India's historic victory in 1971. Their selfless dedication and unwavering determination protected our nation and brought us glory."

Modi further wrote, "This day is a tribute to their extraordinary valor and indomitable spirit. Their sacrifices will forever inspire generations and remain deeply etched in our nation's history."

Modi's post has sparked widespread anger in Bangladesh. Many, including Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Movement, strongly protested India's claim of Bangladesh's victory as its own. Bangladeshis have also expressed their discontent by commenting on Modi's post.
