Israel to Close Embassy in Ireland Over Support for Gaza Genocide Case
Israel has announced that it will close its embassy in Ireland due to Dublin's recognition of Palestine as a state and its support for South Africa's genocide case against Israel regarding Gaza.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar stated in a press release, "In light of the Irish government's highly anti-Israel policies, the decision has been made to close Israel's embassy in Dublin." He further said, "Ireland has crossed all red lines in its relationship. We will focus our resources on developing bilateral relations with countries that align with Israel's interests and values."
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris strongly protested the decision, calling it "deeply unfortunate." Harris said, "We firmly reject the notion that Ireland is against Israel. Ireland stands for peace, human rights, and international law."
The situation has become even more complex as Ireland has supported South Africa's International Court of Justice (ICJ) case against Israel for the Gaza genocide, increasing Israel's isolation in the international arena.
Meanwhile, in addition to closing its embassy in Ireland, Israel has announced plans to open a new embassy in Moldova.
