President Trump and President Macron Meet at Reopening of Restored Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris
Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron held a special meeting during the reopening ceremony of the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Macron expressed his delight at Trump’s presence, stating, “Welcoming Donald Trump to the reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral is a special honor for the French people.”
A Historic Restoration
The historic cathedral, severely damaged by a fire in 2019 during Trump’s first presidential term, was officially reopened on Saturday after years of meticulous reconstruction.
During the event, Trump referred to the relationship between the U.S. and France as a “great relationship.” He added, “The world is in a somewhat unstable state right now, and we will discuss this matter.”
Heightened Security Measures
To ensure Trump’s safety, France’s national police deployed over 20 security agents. Additionally, a special anti-drone technology-equipped van was used as part of the convoy escort.
The Élysée Palace stated that Trump was invited as the president of a “friendly nation,” emphasizing that inviting foreign dignitaries, including former leaders, to such events is not uncommon.
Absence of President Biden
Although current U.S. President Joe Biden was also invited, he could not attend due to scheduling conflicts. First Lady Jill Biden represented the United States in his stead.
