EU Leaders Visit Kyiv, Pledge Continued Support for Ukraine, Promise Firm Stance Against Russia

European Council President Antonio Costa and the EU's new top diplomat, Kaya Kallas, participated in a symbolic visit to Kyiv on Sunday.

"We are here to send a clear message—we stand firmly with Ukraine, and our full support will continue," said Costa.

The top EU officials are in Kyiv for discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Former Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas expressed concern about the situation, stating, "The situation in Ukraine is extremely serious. However, Russia is paying a high price for it."

Concerns over U.S. Support
With Donald Trump set to take office as U.S. President in January, uncertainty has arisen over U.S. support for Ukraine. There is speculation that Trump may pressure Ukraine into making difficult concessions to quickly implement a peace agreement.

Russian Threats
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to attack government buildings in Kyiv with new "Oreshonik" missiles. Putin claimed that the step was taken because the U.S. and the U.K. had granted Ukraine permission to launch attacks inside Russian territory.

Winter Crisis Intensifies
As winter begins, Russia has intensified destructive attacks on Ukraine's power grid and border areas. Exhausted Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines are losing ground under Russia's continuous assault.

Although the EU leaders' visit symbolizes continued support for Ukraine, it remains uncertain whether any resolution for a ceasefire can be achieved.
