NATO to Play a Role in Ukraine's Ceasefire Plan, Says Zelensky

To end the "hot phase" of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested bringing the territories still under Kyiv's control under NATO's umbrella. This marks the first time the Ukrainian leader has hinted at a ceasefire agreement that temporarily accepts Russian control over the occupied regions.

In an interview with Sky News on Friday, Zelensky stated, "If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we must quickly bring the territories we control under NATO's umbrella. This will allow Ukraine to engage in diplomatic efforts to reclaim other regions."

He further added, "This is not a proposal Ukraine has ever considered, as no one has officially suggested it to us." Zelensky urged NATO to make such a proposal based on Ukraine's internationally recognized borders.

Emphasizing the need for a ceasefire, Zelensky said, "A ceasefire is necessary to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from seizing more Ukrainian territory." He called on NATO to take immediate steps to secure the remaining parts of Ukraine and hinted that the Russian-occupied eastern regions might temporarily remain outside the agreement.

These remarks come months after Zelensky presented his "victory plan" to Western allies.
