The Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) has expressed deep concern over recent threats and attacks targeting the media. In a statement, NOAB highlighted that press freedom in the country is under sustained assault, citing incidents of protests, vandalism, and attacks on the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.

NOAB condemned these actions, stating that if anyone disagrees with the content of news reports or editorial policies, they should respond through intellectual discourse and written arguments. Resorting to violence and disorder undermines the practice of journalism and disrupts the media environment, the association noted.

Calling for decisive government action, NOAB strongly urged authorities to curb mob justice and protect media institutions from such attacks. The association also appealed to all stakeholders to refrain from activities that threaten press freedom.

NOAB’s statement comes amidst increasing concerns about the erosion of press independence, as media outlets face growing challenges in carrying out their professional responsibilities. This call for action underscores the urgent need to safeguard the freedom of expression in Bangladesh.
