Russia Removes Senior Commander Over Battlefield Failures in Ukraine

The report, published on Sunday (November 24) by Al Arabiya, states that Russia is currently making its fastest advancements in Ukraine since the invasion began in 2022. However, Moscow is reassessing the strategies of its commanders to achieve significant breakthroughs, as progress in certain areas, particularly near Siversk in the eastern Donetsk region, remains sluggish despite intensified offensives.

Russian media, citing unnamed sources, reported that Colonel General Gennady Anashkin, the commander of the Southern Grouping, has been removed from his command. While there has been no official confirmation from Moscow, Anashkin is accused of taking nearly two months to respond effectively to battlefield challenges, prompting dissatisfaction among pro-Russian bloggers. Some have even labeled him as idle.

A war correspondent for Russia’s state television also confirmed that Anashkin has been dismissed from his command. However, Russia's Defense Ministry has not responded to requests for comment from Reuters.

This development underscores ongoing dissatisfaction within Russia's military hierarchy as Moscow strives to overcome operational setbacks and achieve its goals in the protracted Ukraine conflict.
