“President Trump Trusts India”: Sergio Gor Highlights Strong U.S.-India Strategic Ties
U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has emphasized the importance of strengthening strategic ties between India and the United States. According to a report by The Times of India on August 18, 2026, Gor said that President Donald Trump has deep trust in India and has placed significant importance on relations with New Delhi since the beginning of his second term.
Speaking at the Indian-American Chamber of Commerce’s (IACC) National Convention 2026, Gor said the Trump administration views India not merely as a trading partner but as an important strategic partner. He said Trump has made significant investments in the relationship and has sought to further strengthen the foundation of trust between the two countries.
Gor said Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a “Trust Initiative” at the beginning of Trump’s second term. The initiative aims to take bilateral cooperation to a new level through strategic technologies, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, defense and critical minerals.
He also highlighted the significance of the Global AI Summit hosted by India, saying the event demonstrated the potential for technological cooperation between the two countries. According to Gor, around 90% of the companies participating in the summit were American, underscoring the growing importance of India as a hub for future technology and innovation.
Gor’s remarks also underline Washington’s view of India as a key partner in Indo-Pacific security, defense and technological cooperation. He has previously stressed that practical military cooperation matters more than changes in names or administrative structures, noting that India conducts more military exercises with the United States than any other country.
Overall, Gor’s remarks indicate that despite differences between Washington and New Delhi over trade and tariffs, the United States continues to regard India as a long-term strategic partner. Defense, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum technology and critical minerals are expected to remain key areas for deeper cooperation between the two countries.
