Allegations that Russia has provided intelligence and military assistance to Iran have renewed debate in Washington. Despite claims from U.S. officials and intelligence reports, President Donald Trump has downplayed the issue, raising questions about his approach toward Moscow.

Fresh allegations that Russia has been assisting Iran during its conflict with the United States have intensified political debate in Washington.
According to U.S. intelligence reports, media investigations, and statements from Ukrainian officials, Moscow may have supplied Tehran with intelligence, drone technology, and satellite imagery that could help target U.S. military installations.
However, President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns, saying he believes Russia and China are not directly participating in the conflict because their leaders assured him they are not supplying weapons to Iran.
During a recent Senate hearing, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged that both Russia and China are providing various forms of support to Iran, enabling Tehran to sustain its military operations.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declined to directly answer questions about Russian assistance to Iran during his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump argued that he did not believe Russia or China were actively involved in the war, adding that he trusted their leaders not to disappoint him.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that Russia supplied Iran with satellite imagery of U.S. military bases, potentially helping Tehran improve the accuracy of its attacks.
When asked about those reports, Trump said the information “wouldn’t have made much difference,” but added that he intended to discuss the matter directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier reports by CNN and The New York Times, citing intelligence sources, also alleged that Russia had shared intelligence and drone-related assistance with Iran. The Kremlin has denied all such allegations.
Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff said he had strongly warned Moscow against providing targeting intelligence or any military assistance to Tehran.
Political analysts note that despite mounting allegations and recent U.S. casualties in attacks linked to Iran, Trump has continued to avoid publicly confronting Russia over the issue, prompting renewed scrutiny of his policy toward Moscow.
