Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said that China is seriously considering the introduction of high-speed rail technology in Bangladesh, opening the possibility of future bullet train services on major routes, including Dhaka–Chattogram.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour at a seminar organized by the Bangladesh-China Friendship Association (BCFA) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka on Saturday (July 18), Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen highlighted various aspects of the growing strategic partnership between Bangladesh and China.

He described Bangladesh-China relations as being at one of the strongest points in their history, noting that recent high-level exchanges have further strengthened bilateral cooperation.

Yao Wen said discussions are underway regarding the use of Chinese high-speed rail technology in Bangladesh, which could pave the way for bullet train services on key transport corridors.

On the Teesta River Comprehensive Project, the ambassador said feasibility studies are progressing rapidly and that Beijing is prepared to provide both technical and financial assistance for its implementation.

He also noted that work on the Bangladesh-China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (BCIM) is moving forward, which could significantly improve regional connectivity and trade.

Highlighting trade opportunities, the ambassador said a protocol signed during a recent high-level visit will allow Bangladesh to export fresh jackfruit to China, expanding market access for Bangladeshi agricultural products.

Regarding the Rohingya crisis, Yao Wen said China will continue its mediation efforts to facilitate dialogue between Bangladesh and Myanmar and support a sustainable solution for the safe repatriation of displaced Rohingyas.

He reaffirmed China’s long-term commitment to supporting Bangladesh in infrastructure, trade, technology, connectivity, and regional stability.
