Trump, Minnesota Governor Walz Agree to Strengthen Crime Cooperation
Washington, D.C. — U.S. President Donald J. Trump said he held a “very good” and productive phone conversation with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, signaling renewed federal-state cooperation aimed at further reducing crime across Minnesota.
In a statement released by the White House, President Trump said Governor Walz personally contacted him requesting closer coordination on public safety matters in the state. Trump noted that the two leaders were “on a similar wavelength” when it came to strengthening law enforcement efforts and improving security.
“Governor Tim Walz called me with the request to work together with respect to Minnesota. It was a very good call, and we seemed to be on a similar wavelength,” Trump said.
Trump announced that he has instructed Tom Homan, a senior White House official overseeing enforcement operations, to directly engage with Minnesota authorities. Homan is expected to coordinate with state and local officials to identify and take action against criminals currently in custody.
“What we are looking for are any and all criminals that they have in their possession,” Trump said, adding that Governor Walz understood the approach and welcomed Homan’s visit to the state.
The president also emphasized that crime has already declined in Minnesota, but both leaders believe there is room for further improvement.
“Crime is way down, but both Governor Walz and I want to make it better,” Trump stated.
Trump highlighted previous federal successes in cities such as Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana, saying similar strategies would help Minnesota continue lowering crime and strengthening public safety.
Political analysts say the call reflects a pragmatic shift toward cooperation between federal and state leadership at a time when crime, immigration enforcement, and public security remain major national issues.
The White House confirmed that President Trump and Governor Walz are expected to continue discussions in the coming days as coordination efforts move forward.
