In a message shared on social media, Chancellor Merz thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inviting him to Gujarat, Modi’s home state, describing the invitation as a “special gesture” that reflects the strong and friendly ties between Berlin and New Delhi.

“The partnership with India is a high priority for Germany,” Merz stated, adding that he greatly valued the friendly, open, and constructive exchange with Prime Minister Modi.

Diplomatic sources say the visit underscores Germany’s intent to strengthen cooperation with India across key sectors including trade, investment, clean energy, technology, manufacturing, and geopolitical coordination. Gujarat, known as one of India’s major industrial and economic hubs, was seen as a symbolic and strategic choice for the visit.

Analysts note that Germany is increasingly viewing India as a critical partner in the Indo-Pacific, especially amid shifting global supply chains and evolving geopolitical dynamics.

The visit is expected to further deepen Germany–India relations, paving the way for expanded economic cooperation and closer political engagement in the years ahead.
