Trump’s Historic Initiative for Global Peace: Alaska Summit Brings Trump and Putin Face-to-Face

Moscow, Aug 15 : In what is being hailed as another historic move to establish lasting global peace, U.S. President Donald Trump will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday for a high-stakes summit. With the Ukraine ceasefire and a potential new nuclear arms control treaty at the top of the agenda, the meeting could further solidify Trump’s image as a global peacemaker.

Reuters say's,  Held at a Cold War-era air base, this will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since Trump’s return to the White House. Determined to find a resolution to the three-and-a-half-year-long Ukraine conflict, Trump’s clear objective is to show the world he is a worthy candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump has indicated that if the talks with Putin prove successful, he will arrange a trilateral summit including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy—positioning himself as the direct mediator in ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

On Wednesday, during a virtual meeting with Ukraine and European allies, Trump reassured them that Ukraine would be included in any discussions about territorial matters. He also responded positively to the idea of post-war security guarantees for Ukraine.

Ahead of the summit, Putin proposed a new nuclear arms control agreement to replace the last active treaty before it expires—something analysts say could be a major diplomatic win for Trump.

Although Russia insists on strict conditions for a full ceasefire, Trump is determined to secure an agreement that will not only benefit Ukraine but also open a new chapter of peace in global politics.

Currently, Russia controls about one-fifth of Ukraine’s territory. Putin’s objectives include full control of Donbas, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, as well as ending Ukraine’s NATO membership aspirations. Ukraine has rejected these demands, but Trump’s initiative may open the door to new negotiations.

Many observers see this summit as one of Donald Trump’s boldest diplomatic moves to advance world peace.
