[Bangkok, July 24, 2025] — Amid growing national concern over the escalating Thailand–Cambodia border clashes, Thai interim Prime Minister Fumtham delivered a strong message today. He declared, “Cambodia is solely responsible for this conflict, as they deliberately launched an attack on our territory. Thailand is simply exercising its right to self-defense.”
Speaking at a press briefing in Bangkok, Fumtham said, “Cambodia’s brutal assault on our citizens and border guards is utterly unacceptable. They initiated the shelling, planted hundreds of landmines on roads, and targeted civilians.”
He added, “Peace talks are impossible at this moment. Fires are still burning, our troops are engaged in battle — calling for dialogue now would break our soldiers’ morale. We will not enter into any negotiations until the fighting has stopped.”
According to Fumtham, Thailand’s response is “not retaliatory” but rather a “necessary action to protect border security and national sovereignty.” He claimed that the Thai Air Force strikes specifically targeted Cambodian military installations and weapons depots.
Thailand Holds Firm Despite UN Pressure:
While the United Nations and the international community continue to call for a ceasefire and peace talks, Fumtham stated, “Until Cambodia withdraws its forces from the border, we will maintain our defensive stance. If they behave like terrorists, the response will be equally tough.”
Military Readiness Strengthened:
The Thai government has already deployed additional troops to the border and issued emergency security directives. Civilians in the area have been asked to move to safe zones.
Fumtham concluded, “Thailand wants peace — but not at the cost of weakness. If we are attacked, we will respond. That is our policy.”
