Israel stated on Saturday that the changes Hamas wants to make to Qatar's proposed Gaza ceasefire deal are unacceptable.

A statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said:
“The changes Hamas wants to introduce to the Qatari proposal were conveyed to us on Friday night and are unacceptable to Israel.”

However, the statement added:
“After reviewing the situation, Prime Minister Netanyahu has instructed that the invitation for proposed indirect negotiations be accepted, and that talks for the release of hostages will continue based on the proposals Israel has already agreed to.”

According to the statement, an Israeli negotiating team will travel to Qatar on Sunday.

Hamas, in a statement issued late Friday night, said it had handed over its official response to Qatari and Egyptian mediators. The response was developed in coordination with other Palestinian political factions.
In the statement, Hamas said its reply was “positive” and that it is “ready to begin immediate discussions on the implementation framework.”

According to Israeli estimates, around 50 hostages are still being held in Gaza, with the locations of 20 of them confirmed. Meanwhile, over 10,400 Palestinians are currently imprisoned in Israeli jails. Many of them have reportedly died due to torture, starvation, or medical neglect, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations.

Despite international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has continued its military campaign in Gaza since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of over 57,300 Palestinians, most of whom were women and children.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its alleged involvement in acts of war against the people of Gaza.
