Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described his recent phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump as “the most constructive and fruitful discussion of this time.” Zelensky made the remarks during his regular video address on Saturday.

He said:
“Today’s discussion with President Donald Trump was the best and most productive one in recent times.”

Talks Focused on Air Defense and Patriot Missile Systems

The call primarily centered on Ukraine’s air defense capabilities—particularly the American-made Patriot missile defense systems.
Zelensky stated,
“Right now, the Patriot system is our main hope for intercepting ballistic missile attacks.”

He also mentioned that other significant issues were discussed and that officials from both countries would meet in the future to follow up on their implementation.

Trump’s Response and Frustration with Putin

Speaking to reporters on Friday, President Trump confirmed he had a “good talk” with Zelensky. At the same time, he expressed disappointment over a separate conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, claiming:
“Putin showed no interest in a ceasefire.”

When asked whether the U.S. would supply more Patriot systems to Ukraine, Trump replied:
“They need them for self-defense… With the intensity of attacks they’re facing, something must be done.”

Surge in Russian Attacks

Just hours after the Trump-Putin call, Russian forces launched the largest drone attack on Kyiv since the war began 40 months ago.

Russia has recently intensified its air and drone strikes on Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities, putting mounting pressure on Ukraine’s defense systems.
