“The Islamic Republic of Iran Fought Very Bravely” – President Donald Trump at NATO Summit
[The Hague, June 25, 2025]
Speaking at the ongoing NATO Summit in The Hague, Netherlands, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on Iran’s recent war situation, stating:
“Iran was just in a war, and they fought very bravely.”
Through this remark, Trump appeared to offer a degree of recognition and praise for Iran’s resistance and defensive actions, even as his administration continues to apply military and diplomatic pressure on Tehran.
On Oil Exports and Sanctions
When asked whether the United States had any plans to lift sanctions on Iran, Trump responded:
“If they want to sell oil, let them sell it. If China wants to buy, that’s their business.”
He added:
“Iran needs money. They’re trying to rebuild their situation.”
On Nuclear Program Damage and the Possibility of Talks
When asked whether Iran managed to move its nuclear materials during the war, Trump replied:
“They didn’t have time. These are heavy things — hard to move.”
At that point, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio added that President Trump is open to engaging in talks with any country that seeks a peaceful resolution. However, the start of any dialogue would depend on Iran’s willingness.
Hinting at a Possible Deal
Trump said:
“We’re going to meet with Iranian representatives as early as next week. It’s even possible we could reach a deal.”
However, he also clarified:
“I don’t even know if a deal is necessary. They were in a war, they fought, and now they’ve gone back to their path. All I know is — we’re going to meet with them.”
Analysts believe Trump’s comments reflect a strategic gesture of respect toward Iran’s recent resistance, but also signal the beginning of a new chapter in U.S. diplomatic efforts. Both sides now appear to be exploring possible paths for rebuilding future relations in the post-war context.
