Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian officially declared on Tuesday that the 12-day war with Israel has ended and a ceasefire is now in effect.

Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that in a speech addressed to the nation, President Pezeshkian said:

“Today, following the heroic resistance of our great nation—whose steadfast resolve shapes history—we witness the establishment of a ceasefire and the end of this 12-day war imposed by Israel’s audacity and provocations.”

This announcement marks the first time the Iranian government has formally acknowledged that the recent clashes with Israel amounted to a full-scale war and that the conflict has now ceased.

Analysts’ view: Ceasefire brings tentative peace amid uncertainty

Analysts note that while the ceasefire brings apparent calm to the region, concerns remain over how long it will last, as Israeli leaders have yet to declare the war officially over. However, significant pauses in military activity are evident from both sides.

Meanwhile, the ceasefire announcement, brokered through mediation by Qatar, Turkey, and Oman, has brought a breath of relief in the international community. The United Nations and many other global organizations are reportedly preparing to send humanitarian aid swiftly.
