Amid escalating military tensions between Iran and Israel, President Donald Trump has announced that he will decide within the next two weeks whether the United States will take military action against Iran.

“There is a significant possibility of negotiations with Iran—whether that materializes or not—based on that, I will decide within the next two weeks whether the U.S. will get involved,” Trump stated.

Following this announcement, divisions have become evident within Trump’s own party.

Steve Bannon, a key architect of the “America First” movement and former senior advisor in the Trump administration, said:
“We don’t want another Iraq war. Israel started this war; they should finish it.”
He urged for a policy of “cautious diplomacy” and warned that direct U.S. military action against Iran could be a dangerous gamble.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia) and popular media personality Tucker Carlson also opposed potential U.S. military action. They argued that supporting aggression driven by a third party would unnecessarily endanger the American people and not serve U.S. interests.

On the other hand, a powerful bloc within the Republican Party—particularly national security-focused senators—is calling on Trump to take military action.

Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a former military officer, said:
“Forty-three American citizens were killed in the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. Hamas is an Iran-backed terrorist organization. Turning a blind eye to Iran would only invite more attacks.”
She advocated for preemptive action against Tehran.

This statement from the Trump administration marks a significant turning point. Should the U.S. decide to stand militarily alongside Israel, it could trigger not only a regional war in the Middle East but potentially a global, multinational conflict.

However, Trump’s hint at possible negotiations also opens a window for diplomatic resolution—though the path to implementation remains complex.

The international community is now watching the White House closely. These next two weeks will determine whether the U.S. chooses war—or gives diplomacy a chance.
