Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has called for prioritizing diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing Gaza crisis and the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. On Monday night, during the G7 summit held in Canada, she met with U.S. President Donald Trump for a bilateral meeting.

A statement released by Meloni's office on Tuesday morning described the meeting as “an important opportunity for open dialogue on the recent situation involving Iran.” It added, “Both sides emphasized the need to keep channels for dialogue and diplomacy open.”

The statement further noted, “Prime Minister Meloni specifically stressed the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza and urged prompt actions to de-escalate violence in the Middle East.”

The two leaders also discussed EU-U.S. trade relations and the potential agenda for the upcoming NATO summit.

In the final G7 summit communiqué, member nations reaffirmed their support for Israel and labeled Iran as a source of instability in the Middle East. The G7 called for a cessation of regional conflicts and encouraged regional initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution.

Analysts warn that the military escalation triggered by Israel’s airstrikes on Iran since last Friday could push the entire Middle East toward a devastating war. Concerns are mounting over the interconnected impact of the Gaza war and Iran-Israel tensions.

The G7 statement declared:
“We call for a peaceful resolution of Iran-related tensions to contribute to the broader de-escalation of violence in the Middle East. As part of that effort, a meaningful ceasefire in Gaza must be ensured.”

Meanwhile, during the summit, President Trump abruptly left a day early and returned to the United States. He later posted a message on social media calling for the immediate evacuation of Tehran—widely seen as a reflection of the U.S.'s hardline stance toward Iran.
