Washington, June 17, 2025 — Confusion has emerged over ongoing ceasefire efforts between Israel and Iran. French President Emmanuel Macron claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump left the G7 summit and returned to Washington to work on a ceasefire between the two countries. However, Trump has directly denied that assertion.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote:
“The fame-hungry President of France, Emmanuel Macron, wrongly claimed that I left the G7 Summit in Canada and am returning to Washington to work on a ‘ceasefire’ between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He doesn’t know why I’m heading back to Washington, but it’s certainly not for a ceasefire.”
Trump further added:
“The reason I’m returning to the United States is something much bigger than this ceasefire. Stay tuned!”
Trump’s statement made it clear that his decision to return to Washington is due to a more significant strategic or political issue than the international ceasefire effort—though he did not specify what that issue is.
Previously, growing global concern had followed five consecutive days of airstrikes between Iran and Israel. President Trump had already urged Iranian citizens to “immediately evacuate Tehran.”
Analysts say Trump’s remarks not only highlight a diplomatic divergence with France but may also hint at deeper strategic maneuvers unfolding within the White House in response to the crisis.
As the conflict in the Middle East grows increasingly complex, Trump’s cryptic comments could signal a shift in future diplomatic efforts—something potentially “bigger than a ceasefire.”
