“If President Donald Trump Wants, the Iran-Israel Crisis in the Middle East Can Be Resolved” – Alon Pinkas
London, June 16, 2025
The power to end the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel in the Middle East primarily lies in the hands of former U.S. President Donald Trump, according to former Israeli diplomat Alon Pinkas.
In an interview with BBC World Service's “Newsday” program, Pinkas stated,
“Trump is currently in a position where he could initiate peace talks if he chooses to.”
According to him, the United States could present a strategic proposal to Iran that allows Tehran to save face while helping to bring them back to the path of diplomacy and peace through negotiations.
However, Pinkas warned,
“Iran is currently in a weak diplomatic position. As a result, they might be inclined to continue the war and inflict further damage on Israel.”
He added,
“On the other hand, Trump could simply pick up the phone and tell Netanyahu, ‘Enough — you have 24 hours to stop this war.’”
“Will he do either of those things? I don’t know,” the former diplomat remarked.
Pinkas’s comments come as the Iran-Israel conflict enters its fourth day, while the international community increasingly looks to the United States to take an active role in calming the situation.
