Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Wednesday expressed regret over some social media posts he made last week about U.S. President Donald Trump, calling them “excessive.”

Musk said, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.” He made the comment on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

The conflict began after Musk opposed the Trump-backed “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a tax and spending bill. As a result, the close partnership Musk had led under the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency broke down. The rift raised concerns among investors regarding the future of Musk’s companies Tesla and SpaceX.

As of Saturday, Musk appeared to have deleted some of the posts from his X account, including one in which he alleged that Trump’s name appeared in the “files” of deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The White House has denied the allegation.

The dispute played out publicly across both X, owned by Musk, and Truth Social, owned by Trump. In response, Trump threatened to terminate government contracts and subsidies awarded to Musk’s companies.
