Pakistan Receiving WMD-Related Materials from China to Achieve Military Parity with India – DIA

A new report by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) states that Pakistan is acquiring technology and materials from China suitable for the production of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Some of these supplies are reportedly routed through countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Published on Sunday (May 25), the report reveals that China is assisting Pakistan both militarily and economically to enhance its nuclear arsenal, while Pakistan continues to view India as its primary threat.

According to the report:
“Pakistan is modernizing its nuclear arsenal and maintaining the security of its nuclear materials, as well as its command and control systems. Pakistan is almost certainly procuring WMD-related materials from foreign suppliers and intermediaries.”

The DIA assessment also indicates that Pakistan is likely to focus on border skirmishes with India and continue its military modernization efforts. Notably, it is working on developing battlefield-ready tactical nuclear weapons to counter India’s conventional military superiority.

China-Pakistan Relations and Recent Strains
While China remains Pakistan’s main military supplier, recent terrorist attacks targeting Chinese workers in Pakistan have strained ties between the two allies.

India’s Response and Strategic Advancements
The report also outlines India’s efforts to counter China’s influence by strengthening defense ties with countries across the Indian Ocean region. These efforts include joint military exercises, training programs, weapons sales, and intelligence sharing.

India and China have agreed to withdraw troops from two disputed areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh, although the longstanding border dispute remains unresolved.

India’s Military Modernization
India is actively working to strengthen its domestic defense industry under the “Make in India” initiative, aiming to reduce foreign dependence and modernize its armed forces.

The report highlights some of India’s recent achievements, including:

  • Test of the nuclear-capable Agni-I Prime, a medium-range ballistic missile

  • Test of the Agni-V missile capable of carrying multiple warheads

  • Commissioning of India’s second nuclear-powered submarine
