Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, stated that Israel’s relentless assault on Gaza is once again destroying hopes for peace — hopes that had briefly emerged, particularly following the recent release of American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander last week.
Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha, he said, “We thought that moment would open a door to end this tragedy, but instead it triggered a new wave of violent attacks.”
“This irresponsible, aggressive behavior is sabotaging any potential peace efforts,” he added.
Sheikh Mohammed also provided an update on the recent ceasefire negotiations held in Qatar, which, according to him, have so far yielded no concrete results.
“There is a fundamental gap between the two sides,” he said. “One side is seeking a partial deal that could potentially lead to a comprehensive agreement. The other side only wants a one-time deal — to end the war and release all the hostages.”
He concluded, “We have not been able to bridge this fundamental divide.”
