Palestinian Red Crescent workers held a massive protest march in Ramallah, demanding an end to the killing of Palestinian medical personnel amid 19 months of Israeli aggression in Gaza.
Hundreds of medical staff, aid workers, and volunteers gathered in the historic Clock Square area of the occupied West Bank city, wearing white and orange jackets. They carried Red Crescent flags and symbolic white shrouds bearing the names and photos of their slain colleagues.
The protesters also called for the release of three Red Crescent workers who have been in Israeli military custody for over a year.
In a statement, the Palestinian Red Crescent reported that 48 of its workers have been killed in Gaza and the West Bank since the start of the war—30 of them while on duty and clearly marked with Red Crescent emblems.
The statement further noted that nearly 1,400 humanitarian and medical personnel have been killed in Gaza so far, and “countless others have been arrested while carrying out humanitarian duties.”
The Red Crescent highlighted a deadly Israeli military attack in March on the city of Rafah, where 15 emergency responders were killed, including eight Red Crescent paramedics.
Red Crescent workers expressed grave concern over the international community’s silence in the face of repeated attacks on humanitarian personnel and called for an immediate end to such violence.
