At least 31 Palestinians were killed across Gaza on Wednesday in Israeli airstrikes, including 13 people who died when Israeli warplanes struck the Al-Karama School in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City, according to the Gaza Civil Defense Agency. The air raids come amid a devastating blockade that has lasted over two months, pushing the war-torn and besieged territory into a severe food crisis, accelerating famine among the Palestinian population.

In Jabalia, northern Gaza, an airstrike on a home killed three people and injured several others. In the southern city of Khan Younis, eight members of the same family were killed in an attack on their house, including a father, his children, and cousins.

In Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, three people, including a child, were killed while sheltering in a tent. A couple was also killed in an airstrike on their home in Bani Suheila village in eastern Gaza.

The Civil Defense Agency further reported that on Tuesday night, 31 people were killed and many others injured in an Israeli strike on a school being used as a shelter in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.

Alongside the relentless bombardment, Israel’s blockade—imposed since March 2—has cut off food and fuel supplies to Gaza. Food aid is nearly exhausted, and a dire shortage of flour has emerged. A mother of six sheltering in a UNRWA facility said that they have nothing left to eat except bread.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) declared:
“Israel must lift the blockade.”
“Urgent international action is needed before this humanitarian catastrophe worsens further,” the agency added.

Gaza’s healthcare system is also on the brink of collapse—88% of hospital beds are already occupied, and there is a critical shortage of medicines and medical supplies.

Ceasefire Talks:
On Wednesday morning, Egypt and Qatar—two countries previously involved in truce negotiations—reaffirmed their commitment to alleviating the humanitarian crisis and creating an environment conducive to a lasting ceasefire. In coordination with the United States, the two nations continue efforts to broker an agreement.

In a joint statement, they said,
“Attempts to create misunderstandings or divisions among brotherly nations will fail. Our efforts to end the war and humanitarian disaster will continue.”

On the other hand, Israel warned it would launch an even larger-scale military operation in Gaza if a ceasefire is not reached.

Hamas spokesperson Basem Naim said,
“There is no justification for talks as long as this famine and genocidal war continues.”
