Turkey Ready to Provide Humanitarian Aid and Support Lasting Peace in Gaza – Erdoğan Tells President Trump
President Donald Trump stated that he had a “very good and productive” phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Monday, during which they discussed various global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine war, the conflicts in Syria and Gaza.
In a social media post, Trump added that Erdoğan invited him to visit Turkey in the future and that Erdoğan would also visit Washington, although no specific dates were mentioned. The Turkish Presidential Office confirmed this invitation in an official statement.
Trump, who described his previous relationship with Erdoğan during his first term in the White House as “excellent,” said that the United States and Turkey would work together to end the war in Ukraine.
“I look forward to working with President Erdoğan to put an end—right now—to this ridiculous but deadly war between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump said. According to the Turkish statement, Erdoğan welcomed U.S. efforts to end the war.
However, neither side clarified how Ankara would specifically contribute to this process. Since taking office in January after campaigning on a promise to end the Ukraine war, Trump has shifted U.S. policy—pressuring Kyiv to agree to a ceasefire and easing some pressure on Moscow, despite Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
While Trump initially blamed Ukraine for the conflict, he has recently criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin as well, questioning Putin’s sincerity in reaching a peace agreement.
During the call, Erdoğan also emphasized the urgent need for continuous humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza and expressed Turkey’s readiness to assist in achieving a ceasefire and establishing sustainable peace, according to the Turkish presidential statement.
Erdoğan further stated that Ankara is committed to preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and urged Trump to consider lifting U.S. sanctions imposed on Damascus.
