Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the recent U.S. sanctions imposed during ongoing indirect talks and warned that such "provocative actions" are raising doubts about Washington's sincerity in the negotiations.
He made these remarks while speaking to the press during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning.
Araghchi stated that the new U.S. sanctions imposed during the ongoing diplomatic talks send a negative message and raise questions about America's sincerity.
"If the opposing party takes provocative steps during negotiations, doubts arise about their sincerity," said Araghchi.
He acknowledged the internal disagreements within the U.S. and stated:
"We are aware of the internal divisions within the U.S. and the active lobbying efforts. We are closely monitoring these situations and will make decisions accordingly."
He also mentioned that the next round of talks between Tehran and Washington will be held in Rome, Italy.
"Every negotiation is based on disagreements, and the goal is to resolve the disputes and reach a mutual understanding. The next round of talks will be held in Rome."
"Oman is the host country for the discussions, and for logical reasons, they decided to host the talks in Rome. From our perspective, the location of the talks is not important, so as not to waste time."
"There is no specific timeline for these talks, and we have not set any deadline," he said. "We do not want to waste time and believe the other party shares the same mindset."
"Three European countries are currently playing a minor role, which is due to the wrong policies they have adopted. We do not want this to continue, and that's why we are prepared for constructive talks in their presence."
"We will also hold a meeting with these three European countries in Rome on Friday."
He further stated that the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) will ultimately play a verification role in the talks. Currently, the agency does not have any role in the agreement or negotiations. However, if any agreement is reached, the responsibility for verifying nuclear activities will be assigned to the IAEA.
