April 7, 2025 – [Al Jazeera] – On Monday, an Israeli airstrike targeted a media tent in Khan Younis, Gaza, killing at least two people and injuring several journalists. According to local media reports, the attack took place near Nasser Hospital at around 2 a.m., and the tent was completely burned down after the strike. Among the dead were journalist Helmi Al-Fakawi and another person identified as Youssef Al-Khazinda.

Videos shared online by the Quds News Network showed the tent engulfed in flames, with some people trying to extinguish the fire in the area. Nine people were injured in the attack, including six journalists, some of whom were reported to be in critical condition.

Among the injured journalists were Hassan Aslaih and Ihab Al-Bardini, who are bedridden in the hospital. Al-Bardini suffered shrapnel wounds to his head, with the shrapnel exiting through his eye. A report mentioned that journalist Ahmad Mansour was in critical condition, suffering from severe burns.

The day before this attack, journalist Islam Mekdad, along with her husband and child, were killed, further increasing the death toll among media representatives in Gaza.

According to the "Costs of War" project by the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza has been the "most dangerous" and deadliest war for media workers. The report reveals that since the attacks began on October 7, 2023, 232 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza.

The report also highlighted that, on average, 13 journalists are killed every week in Gaza, surpassing the total number of journalists killed in the Second World War, the Vietnam War, the Yugoslav War, and the Afghanistan War combined.
