Putin's Dual Strategy: Maintaining Good Relations with President Trump While Intensifying the Ukraine War
This week, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent Kirill Dmitriev to Washington, marking the most important Russian diplomatic mission since the invasion of Ukraine. However, at the same time, Putin has ordered the deployment of 160,000 soldiers and continues to carry out attacks on Ukraine. This dual approach clearly reflects Russia's foreign policy and Putin's position on Ukraine.
Experts believe that while Putin wants to continue his plans for the Ukraine war, he also seeks to normalize relations with America. He wishes to engage in slow-paced discussions with Trump to maintain progress on the battlefield and to be in a more advantageous position in the future.
The Russian diplomatic mission was aimed at improving relations with Trump and creating opportunities for discussions on matters unrelated to the Ukraine crisis. However, there has been no sign of any initiative to stop the war or military operations. Putin's decision to continue the war is clearly reflected in the words of Kirill Dmitriev, who emphasized the normalization of relations with the U.S. as the primary goal.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine's Kharkiv city, a Russian drone attack killed five people and injured more than 30, signaling an increase in the intensity of the conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Putin is planning an attack in the spring.
This dual strategy is part of Russia's foreign policy, where they aim to improve relations with America even amid the war, while simultaneously continuing to attack Ukraine and carry on with the conflict.
