At Least 322 Children Killed in Ongoing Israeli Attacks in Gaza Over 10 Days – UN Children’s Fund
Gaza, April 1, 2025: According to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), at least 322 children have been killed and 609 injured in Gaza over the past 10 days following the breakdown of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The agency stated, "The ceasefire in Gaza had provided a vital lifeline for children and opened a path for recovery," said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.
She added, "But children have once again been trapped in a deadly cycle of violence and poverty. All parties must ensure the protection of children under international humanitarian law."
UNICEF reported that most of the children killed were refugees in Gaza, sheltering in tents or damaged homes. On March 23, children were also killed and injured during an attack on the surgical department of Al-Nasser Hospital.
Following the March 2 ban on humanitarian aid in Gaza and the resumption of Israeli bombing, citizens in Gaza, particularly over one million children, have been placed in dangerous conditions. UNICEF stated that food, clean water, shelter, and medical services in Gaza are steadily declining, which may lead to an increase in preventable child deaths.
UNICEF has called for an end to the violence, the restoration of the ceasefire, and the resumption of the flow of humanitarian and commercial goods into Gaza. The agency emphasized, "The world must not remain indifferent to this massacre and the suffering of a generation of children," urging nations to adhere to international law and to use their influence to end the war.
Meanwhile, on March 18, the Israeli military launched an unexpected aerial operation in Gaza, resulting in over 1,000 deaths and the collapse of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
As of now, more than 50,000 Palestinians, most of whom are women and children, have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 2023. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2023 against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
