UK Prime Minister Starmer Warns of Severe Consequences for Russia If Peace Deal with Ukraine Is Violated
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin will violate any peace agreement with Ukraine if security guarantees are not in place.
Following a meeting organized by the UK, where Western military officials discussed the potential military aspects of a peace deal for Ukraine, Starmer stated that more than 20 countries had discussed proposals for sending troops in a closed session to ensure Ukraine’s security.
He stressed that the security arrangements are crucial and made it clear that Russia has been informed that any breach of the agreement would have "severe consequences."
Starmer noted that the UK and its allies are moving from political initiatives toward military planning and that preparations must be made before any agreement is reached between Russia and Ukraine.
He said, "It is extremely important for us to do this because we know that if any deal is made without security guarantees, Putin will violate it."
