Another Devastating Explosion in Balochistan, Pakistan – At Least Five Security Personnel Killed, Over 50 Injured

At least five Pakistani security personnel were killed, and more than 50 others were injured in a roadside bomb explosion near a security forces' bus in Balochistan’s Nushki district. Police reported that this attack occurred at a time when the country is facing a growing security crisis.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack on Sunday. The group was also responsible for last week’s deadly train hijacking incident, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 26 people.

Nushki’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hashim Momand stated that over 30 paramilitary personnel were injured in the explosion. Another police officer, Zafar Zamanani, mentioned that a nearby bus was also severely damaged. The injured and deceased were transported to a nearby hospital.

Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Sarfraz Bugti, condemned the attack, saying, "Those who are disrupting peace in Balochistan will face severe consequences." Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the attack.

According to local sources, journalist Kamal Hyder from Al Jazeera reported that the attack targeted a convoy of eight buses traveling from Nushki towards Taftan, near the Iranian border.

He further added, "First, an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated, followed by gunfire from the attackers. Local sources suggest the death toll may rise."

This attack comes just a week after the BLA hijacked the Zafar Express train, where approximately 400 passengers were held hostage, and 26 people were killed, including several military personnel.

Pakistan’s Military Accuses India of Involvement

Pakistan’s military has claimed that the attack was orchestrated by "terrorists operating from Afghanistan" and alleged India's involvement. The Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stated in a press conference, "The mastermind behind the recent terrorist activities in Balochistan is our eastern neighbor [India]."

Ethnic Baloch residents of the region have long accused Islamabad of discrimination, but the Pakistani government has denied these claims.

Terrorist Attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

In addition to Balochistan, violence has also escalated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which shares a border with Afghanistan and where the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) remains active.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, condemned recent attacks on police forces in the province. The TTP claimed responsibility for carrying out 16 attacks within the past 24 hours.

On Sunday night, separate attacks in the Karak and Peshawar districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the deaths of two police officers and a private security guard.

Terrorist attacks in Pakistan have significantly increased in recent years. Last year alone, over 1,500 people were killed in such attacks.

Although the Afghan Taliban has denied involvement in attacks against Pakistan, security experts warn that instability in border areas is rising, posing a serious challenge to Pakistan’s security apparatus.
