Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to discuss a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine, but progress on a final peace agreement is necessary for this, according to sources familiar with the situation in Moscow, Bloomberg has reported.

In talks last month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, senior officials from Russia and the United States discussed a ceasefire proposal for the Ukraine-Russia war, which was presented to the Russian side by U.S. President Donald Trump. Russia has stated that it would agree to a ceasefire if certain conditions are met, and it could end the three-year-long war between the two countries.

Russia has said that before agreeing to a temporary ceasefire, there needs to be clarity on the framework for a final peace agreement. Additionally, decisions need to be made regarding peacekeeping missions, such as which countries would participate. Russia has previously stated that it will not accept the presence of NATO forces in Ukraine, which led to the rejection of European countries' proposals to participate in peacekeeping missions.

Russia has shown a positive attitude towards countries like China, which have taken a neutral stance in the conflict and expressed interest in deploying troops.

Meanwhile, a crucial meeting between the United States and Ukraine will take place in Saudi Arabia next week, which will be the first meeting after a public debate between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump. The aim of this meeting is to create a framework for a peace deal and establish a preliminary ceasefire.

After starting his second term, Donald Trump's decisions regarding the Ukraine-Russia conflict have differed from previous diplomatic policies. Due to deteriorating relations with Ukraine, Trump suspended military aid to Ukraine and also halted intelligence sharing with the country, which European allies have warned could encourage Russia's aggression.
