A new advisory body, the "Department of Government Efficiency" (DGOE), led by US President Donald Trump and the world's richest person, Elon Musk, has decided to suspend the allocated budget for strengthening political systems in various countries. Among these, an allocation of $29 million (nearly $3 million) to strengthen the political situation in Bangladesh has been canceled.
In addition, more than $21 million (about $2 million) allocated for increasing voter turnout in India has also been canceled. These details were shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the DGOE.
A total of around $500 million or $486 million was allocated globally for strengthening electoral systems and political processes, which has now been suspended. This decision also canceled a $40 million budget originally allocated for gender equality and women's empowerment.
The Department of Government Efficiency, which is not a government department but an advisory body formed through Trump’s executive order, will primarily focus on reducing government waste and decreasing the number of federal employees. The agency will work on reducing government spending and ensuring efficient management.
Trump stated that this advisory body will bring an "entrepreneurial perspective" to restructure the government, and it will be America’s “Manhattan Project” of the times. He further mentioned that the work of this department will be completed by July 4, 2026.
Meanwhile, both Musk and Ramaswamy reacted to the budget suspension, stating that it will create a kind of shockwave within the government and serve as a warning to those involved in government waste.
