Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States on February 12-13. During this visit, he will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump’s full Cabinet and discuss tariff concessions and defense agreements.
Through this visit, Modi will become only the third foreign leader to be hosted by Trump at the White House during his second term. Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba had met with Trump at the White House.
A major topic of discussion during this visit will be tariffs and defense trade. Specifically, Modi is expected to offer tariff concessions to improve India’s trade relationship with the United States. Additionally, Modi may propose the purchase of U.S. defense products, including General Electric's GE-414 engines and Stryker combat vehicles.
Modi’s visit symbolizes the importance of India-U.S. relations, as Trump uses tariffs as a key instrument of his foreign policy. India may offer to reduce tariffs on a variety of products, including electronics, medical equipment, and some chemicals.
During the visit, Modi is expected to meet with Trump’s full Cabinet and possibly hold discussions with top American businessman Elon Musk.
In addition, Modi and Trump are likely to discuss global issues such as the situation in West Asia, Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific region, and the political situation in Bangladesh.
This visit by Prime Minister Modi may open new horizons in India-U.S. relations and provide opportunities for deeper cooperation between the two countries.
