Bissau (Bangla) — Under the patronage of Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoko Embalo, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, inaugurated the ‘Tijan An Nour’ Quran competition yesterday at the Lino Correia Stadium in Bissau.

During the opening ceremony of the competition, President Embalo awarded Dr. Al-Issa the highest honorary medal of Guinea-Bissau for his efforts in promoting religious diplomacy, cultural peace, and international cooperation.

In his speech, Dr. Al-Issa highlighted the importance of such competitions in encouraging Quran memorization and improving participants’ roles in society. He emphasized that Quranic education and memorization are not only vital for personal development but also play a significant role in the welfare of the entire community.

This competition is one of the most prominent Quranic events in West Africa, featuring memorization categories for 20 parts, 15 parts, 10 parts, and 5 parts of the Quran. In addition, training courses are provided on Quran recitation, imam and teacher qualifications, and recitation correction.
