A shooting incident occurred at an adult education center in the city of Örebro, Sweden, on Tuesday, leaving five people injured. The police have stated that they are investigating the incident as "attempted murder, arson, and aggravated violation of weapon laws."
The attack took place at the Risbergska School, located in an area that also houses several other schools, including those attended by children. Police have not yet released information regarding the condition or the number of casualties.
Örebro police chief Roberto Eid Forest mentioned that the suspected attacker is one of the five wounded, but the authorities are not ruling out the possibility of other suspects. "We are currently investigating the reasons behind this attack and whether there may be other potential suspects," he said.
The police mentioned that the number of students on the campus was unusually low at the time of the attack, as many had left after taking exams. Teacher Lena Warenmark told SVT News that she heard about ten gunshots.
After the attack, police responded quickly and advised students to stay inside the school building for safety. The public has been urged to stay away from the scene.
Andreas Sundling, 28, who was sheltering in a classroom, spoke to local media, saying, "We heard three loud bangs and screams. Now, we are sitting here waiting to be evacuated from the school."
Sweden's Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer stated in an interview with public broadcaster SVT, "The news of the attack in Örebro is very serious."
Although attacks in schools are rare in Sweden, several serious incidents have occurred in recent years.
