Brazilian football star Neymar and Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal have mutually agreed to terminate their contract. Following a disappointing performance for the club, Brazil's all-time top scorer decided to part ways.

In a post on X early Tuesday, Al Hilal announced, "Al Hilal and Neymar Jr. have mutually agreed to terminate the player's contract."

The 32-year-old Neymar sustained a knee injury in October 2023 during Brazil's World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay. Since then, he has been unable to fully regain his form.

Neymar joined Al Hilal in August 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a transfer fee of €90 million ($98 million). However, he managed to play only seven matches for the club.

According to Brazilian media reports, Neymar is set to return to his childhood club, Santos. He previously left Santos in 2013 to join Barcelona and is now preparing to make a comeback.

Notably, Neymar is associated with the highest transfer fee in football history. In August 2017, he set a world record when he moved from Barcelona to PSG for a transfer fee of €222 million ($232 million).

Due to injuries, Neymar could not spend much time on the field with Al Hilal. After participating in just seven matches, his chapter in Saudi Arabia has come to an end.
